Allan started his career in the 1970s in banking before moving to become a trainee account in Local Government. He spent 25 years in both finance and housing culminating in him being head of Housing Services for a neighbouring authority.
Since 1999 Allan has worked at the Northern Housing Consortium, a support body for social housing providers throughout the North, where he is Director of Resources. His role however, is more diverse than the job title may suggest, and he is heavily involved in lobbying and representation of housing on a regional and national basis, particular around continuing development of the ALMO movement and the funding of housing provision generally.
He joined the Board when it was founded. Allan is married with an adult daughter and his hobbies include golf, fly fishing and watching football. He is the Captain of Woodham Golf Club.
Allan is Chair of the Finance & Performance Committee and also sits on the Company Audit Committee &and the Nominations & Remuneration Committee
