Apply for a Council House
How do I get an application form?
- You can now complete the housing application form over the internet. Click here (opens in a new window) to access the online form.
- Contact, by telephone/email or in person, any of our local Housing Offices
- Contact, by telephone/email or in person, our Allocations & Housing Advice Team
- Download the form using the link below - you will need to print this out and then return the completed form to the Allocations & Housing Advice Team or any local housing centre.
Things to bear in mind when completing the form
- Staff will be happy to discuss your housing needs and will help you fill in the form if necessary.
- In some areas properties are very limited and it would be advisable to consider as many areas as possible to increase your chances of getting a home - however we do advise a choice of a maximum of 6 areas.
Proof of Identify and Address Documentation
Along with your completed Housing Application Form, we also ask that you supply the following documentation:
- Proof of your identity - this can be in the form of your birth certificate, valid passport, medical card, driving licence or photo ID card
- Proof of your address - a recent bank or credit card statement, utility bill, court summons, employment or benefit correspondence, payslip or child benefit book
If you are posting your completed Housing Application Form, please make sure that the proof of identify and address documentation items you supply are photocopies - please do not send originals.
Alternatively, if you hand deliver your application form, a member of staff will take photocopies of your proof of identify and address documentation then and there so that you can take the originals away with you.
What happens next?
Once we have received your completed application form and confirmed proof of your identity and address, we will assess your application and write to you acknowledging your application and confirming how many 'points' you have been awarded, based on the information you have provided.
If you want to move home - and you are currently renting a home owned by Stockton Borough Council, you need to complete a 'Housing Transfer Form'. You can get a 'Housing Transfer Form' from any local Housing Office, our Allocations & Housing Advice Team, or you can download the form using the link below.
