Changing Times for CORGI

corgi logo

CORGI (Confederation Of Registered Gas Installers) have been responsible for the Gas Registration Scheme for more than 17 years.

In 2006, the HSE undertook a major review of the domestic gas safety regime & later announced that the Gas Registration Scheme would be put out to tender.

In September this year, the HSE awarded a 10 year contract to the Capita Group Plc to provide a new registration scheme for gas installers from 1 April 2009.

Until that date, registration with CORGI remains a legal requirement for gas workers.

Details of the new scheme have yet to be disclosed, but Capita will communicate with installers from Jan 1st 2009 and with Consumers from March 1st 2009.

The new scheme will have a new brand that will be launched in the near future.

This will mean that from April 2009, anybody wanting gas work carried out will no longer be looking for a CORGI registered gas fitter, but somebody who is registered under the new scheme.

It is essential though, that anybody working on gas before 31st March 2009 is registered by CORGI.

Please do not let anybody into your home without seeing identification and being confident that they are who they say they are. You can check if they are registered by contacting CORGI on 0800 9150485 or on the website www.trustcorgi.com
