What is Legionella?
Legionella is a type of pneumonia. It is an uncommon but serious disease.
It usually affects middle - aged or elderly people.
The symptoms of the disease are similar to flu.
Preventing the disease is simple - take steps to prevent a build up of bacteria:
- Keep taps and showerheads free from scale.
- Ensure your water tank has a cover.
- Run all water taps regularly to prevent water stagnation in the pipes - especially if you have been away from home or on holiday.
If your flat does not have its own water storage tank Tristar Homes will ensure all shared water storage tanks are checked regularly.
Alterations
As a leaseholder you must request permission to carry out any alterations to your property, as there may be health and safety implications. This is paramount when it comes to the front door to your flat. Depending on what type of block your flat is situated in, the front doors and or frames are most likely fire retardant. This is for the safety of both yourself and others within the block. It is imperative that the specification of these doors is maintained. Contact the Leasehold Section for further details on 01642 528518.
Communal Areas
The communal stairwells, corridors and entrances must remain sterile. Please do not place doormats, plastic flowers, tables etc outside of your front door. This could impede residents during an emergency, or be a fire hazard.
