Service Charges

Leasehold Property

What is a 'Service Charge'?

When you buy the lease to a flat or maisonette previously owned by Stockton Borough Council, the Council are still responsible for the upkeep of the structure, exterior and communal parts of the block in which the flat is situated.

Tristar Homes will provide most services, such as external repairs, lighting, cleaning or caretaking, where these apply to your block of flats.

As a leaseholder, you have to pay a share of the cost of these repairs and services, and these costs are called Service Charges.

Service Charges are detailed in the lease and should be fully understood before completing the purchase.

We encourage all potential leaseholders and those who have bought on the open market to attend an interview with a member of the Leasehold Team to discuss the rights and responsibilities of both parties as well as the cost implications of becoming a leaseholder.
