Am I entitled to a Council house?
Yes, all residents within the Borough can apply for a Council home. Lettings are made subject to the availability of empty properties and are based on a points system, known as the Housing Waiting List.
As from the 1st April 2003, a change to the Council's allocation policy required proof of identity for each person on the application form. Proof of address will also be required for each adult.
Tristar Homes Ltd, in conjunction with Stockton Borough Council, work with the Safer Stockton Partnership. This means that applicants will be screened through the Landlord Liaison Scheme or the Police and Landlords against Crime - or both. This will be carried out when an application is received - prior to any offer being made.
A check will also be carried out on any outstanding rent or rechargeable repairs.
