Affordable new homes heading to Stockton Town Centre
A new development of affordable homes is planned on the site of a former health centre in Stockton Town Centre.
Thirteen has recently purchased the site of the former Alma Street Resource Centre.
The intention is to demolish the existing building on the site and replace it with much needed affordable rent homes. It is in a prime location – just a short walk away from Stockton Town Centre with shopping and leisure facilities, as well as good transport links.
Ian Wardle, chief executive at Thirteen, said, “We are pleased to have acquired this fantastic site, in the heart of Stockton Town Centre.
“The delivery of these high-quality, affordable rented homes will not only complement the recent investment in the regenerated Town Centre but will also bring this important site back into use by providing family housing, apartments and bungalows, that will meet the needs of the local community.
“We are in the process of working up a detailed scheme and hope to have a planning application submitted by the end of the year with the aim of starting on site in 2018.”
Councillor Nigel Cooke, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and housing, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Thirteen and welcome the redevelopment of the site.
“When built, these affordable, modern homes will further add to the diverse range of town centre housing – attracting new people to live in, and enjoy, all that the newly redeveloped Stockton Town Centre has to offer.”
